M Social Resort Penang celebrated its official opening today with a grand launch ceremony in Tanjung Bungah. The 318-room property marks the lifestyle hotel brand’s first venture into Malaysia.

The opening ceremony featured traditional lion dance performances and firecrackers. Distinguished guests included Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Ramli bin Ngah Talib and Toh Puan Raja Dato’ Seri Utama Noora Ashikin binti Raja Abdullah. Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin, Deputy Chairman of Tourism Malaysia, also attended the event.

“M Social was created to reimagine hospitality for a new generation of travellers—those who seek connection, inspiration, and a sense of place,” said Mr Kwek Leng Beng, Executive Chairman of Millennium Hotels and Resorts. “My vision was to build a brand that is bold, expressive, and constantly evolving.”

The resort operates across two wings. The Sunset Bay Wing offers panoramic sea views whilst the Azure Wing provides beachfront-facing rooms suitable for families and groups. Each room features Peranakan-inspired design with rose pink, sea green, and sky blue colour schemes.

Modern amenities include 55-inch smart televisions, high-speed Wi-Fi, and Malaysia’s first in-room AI voice assistant. The property also features a 24-hour gym, outdoor pool, and Grand Ballroom for events.

Three dining venues serve guests. Beast & Butterflies restaurant offers local and international fusion cuisine. The Social Hub provides artisanal high tea and signature cocktails. Breezy Bites offers poolside dining with light meals and refreshing drinks.

“With M Social Resort Penang, we are not only expanding our footprint in Southeast Asia – we are pushing the boundaries of what modern hospitality can be,” said Mr Kwek Eik Sheng, Executive Director of Millennium Hotels and Resorts.

The property represents M Social’s seventh global location and third in Southeast Asia. Other M Social properties operate in Singapore, Paris, New York, Phuket, Suzhou, and Auckland.

Deputy Chairman Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin praised the opening during the ceremony. “I believe M Social will bring something fresh to Malaysia and Penang hotel industry. A brand that speaks to today’s traveller, one who values design, culture and individuality.” he said.

The resort sits minutes from George Town, Gurney Drive, and Penang’s street art and culinary attractions. The location provides access to cultural sites and dining experiences throughout the island.

Malaysia recorded 38 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2024, surpassing Thailand as the most-visited ASEAN country. The opening supports Malaysia’s Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign targeting increased tourism revenue.

“M Social Resort Penang is a bold new chapter for the brand,” said Mr Saurabh Prakash, Interim Chief Operating Officer and Chief Commercial Officer at Millennium Hotels and Resorts. “This opening is more than just a launch—it’s a promise to deliver inspiring stays, seamless technology, and immersive design in a way that truly reflects the spirit of Penang.”
