Penang’s newest lifestyle destination, Sunshine Central, kicked off with a spectacular grand opening of its Phase 1 today with much fanfare and excitement.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony saw VIPs including YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang Tourism and Creative Economy committee chairman, YB Ramkarpal Singh, Bukit Gelugor MP and YB Joseph Ng Soon Siang, Air Itam assemblyman in attendance.
“With diverse shops and inviting food hall and an excess of entertainment options, we aim to enhance the retail landscape of Penang and offer a space where our community can thrive.” said Ms Cynthia Hwang, CEO of Crimson Omega Sdn Bhd.
“This development brings new experiences and conveniences to residents in Bandar Baru Air Itam, Paya Terubong, Relau, Air Itam, and even as far as Balik Pulau. It is a lifestyle hub that will cater to the growing demands of these vibrant communities, offering a range of services, from shopping and dining to entertainment and wellness.” says YB Wong Hon Wai in his speech.
Time dotCom’s vice president of domestic wholesale, Lee Kok Leong, presented a plaque to mark the telco’s partnership with Sunshine Central.
YB Ramkarpal Singh mentioned in his speech, “This development will enhance the well-being of our residents by providing more social, leisure, and economic opportunities.”
The nine-level retail haven boasting 350 stores promises an unparalleled shopping experience in the heart of Penang.
Shoppers can look forward to Sunshine Hypermarket for fresh groceries, SPACE by Sunshine with over 150 fashion brands and a pork-free food court with 26 stalls.
Movie buffs will have to wait till 2025 though for Golden Screen Cinemas’ 11-screen cineplex to open at level 7.
The grand opening featured a 3000-piece balloon drop with prize slips, fashion shows by a.s.a.p x Opera and top SPACE brands, and meet-and-greet sessions with KOL Jing Jing.
Kids enjoyed cotton candy and a balloon sculptor clown, while fitness enthusiasts caught a preview dance by Athens Fitness.
Sunshine Central aims to be Penang’s premier retail and lifestyle destination, promising to enhance community experiences.
The festive atmosphere is set to continue next week with Deepavali celebrations. Visitors can look forward to augmented reality kolam decorations, cultural performances, and kids’ workshops.
